AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Largely renovated in 2002–03, the resort provides a tranquil oasis at the head of fabled Duval Street, down whose length "Duval Crawl" bar-hoppers wander merrily every night. The Pier House appeals is within walking distance of Key West's historical, dining, shopping, and nightlife attractions. Amenity highlights: A 125-by-50-foot private beach leads from the Gulf of Mexico into the resort's central garden. The sand also runs in a narrow, 120-foot-long strip along the resort's waterfront, providing an area designated for topless sunbathing behind a screen of sea grape. Off the beach, a floating barrier protects swimmers from seaweed. A wooden raft provides diving fun. Farther back in the central garden and surrounded by dense tropical plants and trees, a medium-size heated pool on a raised sundeck offers a freshwater swimming alternative. Adjacent to the pool, a secluded spa accommodates 12 convivial soakers. Insider tip: Up a wood staircase on the second floor of the Spa Building, plump seats under a ceiling fan provide quiet reading and conversation space. Just outside on a wood veranda is another peaceful reading/conversation area, this one furnished with cushioned wicker furniture and screened by graceful fronds atop various types of palm trees rising from one story below.

The resort's Caribbean Spa offers body and facial treatments, massage, and beauty services. The spa also includes men's and women's saunas and steam rooms, a fitness room, and a unisex private courtyard containing lounges for sunbathing and a six-person spa blessed by a little waterfall. The resort provides complimentary parking in a large lot, a considerable advantage in crowded downtown Key West.
